Meet the team

Jamie

IKO Instructor, BEng Mechanical

A qualified mechanical engineer who quit his desk job to pursue his passion, Jamie throws himself into the sky as hard as he hits the water on the way down. After having the wind knocked out of him countless times, he has learnt…well…nothing, really – except that it still hurts.

He’s true to himself, determined to live life his own way and is most likely to aggressively adjust his budget to make room for a new kite he doesn’t need.

David ("Dassie")

IKO Instructor, BComm Finance

Named at birth after the majestic South African rock rabbit, Dassie managed a selection of high-profile eateries, coffee bars and organic grocers before switching his taste for fashionable food with a tendency to hurtle skywards. When it comes to kiting, his brain-parts responsible for ‘this could end badly’ go offline, allowing him to send it hard enough to make onlookers anxious.

He’s a sneaky foodie and a passionate debater, and his relentless pursuit of the elusive double kite loop is discussed only in whispers.

Amy

IKO Assistant Instructor, BBusSci, CA(SA)

With a background in chartered accountancy, Amy is sharp enough to know that her knack for numbers is best applied to the business of chasing wind. She’s had multiple encounters with sea creatures while out on her kite, but that hasn’t stopped her harnessing the Cape Doctor to carve new paths through the ocean.

She’s an undercover singer-songwriter, soon to be your new best friend and somehow always manages to get the sweetest deals on brand new gear.
